Educational Pork Cuts Model
Goal
As part of an educational campaign to inform consumers about the origin of various cuts of meat, the client determined an important way to deliver this content would be to display an “anatomy model” at the point of sale in delis. This quickly became an interesting project for us and the client.
Process
Focusing on the most popular cuts of meat and how large the model should be initiated the project. Realism of each cut of meat was extremely important for the client, which required that we convert flat raster images of meat cuts and vectorize them in 3D. Once vectorized, we developed a process for 3D printing each individual meat cut, using the vectorized meat cuts for the external geometry and color of each piece. Finally, we developed a scaled-down model of a pig with an internal side for each meat cut to perfectly fit into, securing them inside the model with discreet, imbedded magnets. The external side of the model featured a “map” of the sections of the pig where each meat cut came from. The model was then finished on a base with a diagram of each section of the body where each meat cut originates.
Results
Our client was able to deliver thousands of these models to stores and delis all over the US for improved education about the benefits, sources, and details of meat cuts from pork.
