Description
NENASim Preemie Xcel: Realistic Simulator for Preterm Neonatal Life Support
The NENASim Preemie Xcel is a realistic simulator designed for neonatal advanced life support training, representing a 27-week preterm baby. This model provides an ideal solution for improving resuscitation team dynamics and training emergency medical interventions.
The fragile structure of a preterm baby is accurately experienced through the realistic looks and feel of the simulator. Made with a unique soft silicone, the Preemie Xcel has soft and smooth skin, reproducing the feeling of touching a real baby. This simulator is a valuable tool for preparing all healthcare professionals involved in the enormous responsibility of caring for such a sensitive and delicate patient.
Core Procedural Capabilities
- Airway Management: Has a realistic airway anatomy with tongue, epiglottis, vocal cords, trachea, and esophagus. Allows placement of multiple oxygen delivery systems (nasal cannula, face masks, etc.), oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airways, orotracheal, nasotracheal, and supraglottic devices.
- Pulmonary System & Ventilation: Features lungs and a stomach, providing visual feedback on endotracheal tube location. Adequate ventilation generates chest rise and fall, while esophagus intubation leads to belly expansion. It is possible to ventilate the simulator using a bag-valve-mask and close the lungs individually to simulate pneumothorax.
- CPR Training: An excellent tool for CPR training, featuring visual anatomical landmarks and realistic compression resistance.
- Vascular Access (IV/IO/Umbilical): Allows practice of intravenous puncture in the scalp veins (superficial temporal veins), which are commonly used to secure access in premature babies. The detachable umbilical cord features two arteries and one vein, all patent and viable for cannulation. Real fluids can be injected and drained through IV and umbilical access. Comes with a replaceable add-on for the leg to train IO access without damaging the simulator.
