Description

Gen II Ultrasound Central Line Training Model

The CAE Blue Phantom upper torso models are ideal for practicing both ultrasound-guided and blind central line placement. Each model offers a patented Simulex insert available with vascular access anatomy of the upper thorax and neck. This model is excellent for using traditional external landmarks for blind insertion central line placement, or ultrasound to guide the central venous access procedure. The Simulex tissue has self-healing properties, allowing for 1000+ punctures when used with an 18-21 gauge needle. Choose from four options: Opaque Insert with Auto Pump, Opaque Insert with Hand Pump, Transparent Insert with Auto Pump, or Transparent Insert with Hand Pump.

About CAE Blue Phantom

At the turn of the 21st century, ultrasound was becoming a go-to technique across medical specialties. With the release of the first truly portable ultrasound systems, a procedure that had once been limited to radiologists was being used everywhere, from emergency medicine to anesthesiology. The demand for ultrasound training was high, but little was available to aid in training.

Sonographer Brian Keegan recognized the need for a reliable training tool and set off to develop the first ultrasound training phantom. After countless hours of creating and testing different configurations in his garage, he finally designed a product that matched the acoustic properties of human tissue and worked with any ultrasound system. The first ultrasound phantom to emerge from Keegan’s work was a small blue block with two internal vessels to mimic veins. That model was inspired by the Blue Phantom name.

In 2012, CAE Healthcare acquired Blue Phantom to further expand and enhance simulation-based clinical training and the delivery of patient care globally. Today, CAE Blue Phantom produces the world's most realistic and durable anatomical task trainers. Coupled with a commitment to customer service and quality, CAE is recognized as the leader in ultrasound training models.

About CAE's Blue Phantom Simulex Tissue

Engineered to match the acoustic characteristics of human tissue, the CAE Blue Phantom patented Simulex tissue is compatible with any real diagnostic ultrasound imaging system (Diagnostic frequencies range from approximately 2 to 20MHz).

CAE Blue Phantom Simulex tissue heals itself following needle sticks. After any ultrasound-guided interventional procedure using 18-21g, sharp, unbent needles, the Simulex tissue will automatically seal around the area where the needle was placed, eliminating leaks. An independent research study performed by the Naval Medical Center and Christiana Care Health System confirmed that any Blue Phantom model can endure at least 1,000 needle sticks before it needs to be replaced. The Simulex ultrasound tissue simulation technology is patented by CAE Blue Phantom (US Patent No. 7,255,565).
