Description
This unique anatomical aid lets you explore body regions layer-by-layer for an exceptional progressive study experience. Detailing human anatomy in a way no chart or torso can duplicate, the Thin Man is a near life-size full-color rendition of the human body which, by means of a series of transparent mylar overlays, allows the peeling away of each layer of tissue, progressing ever more deeply into the body. This provides extremely valuable insight into the spatial relationships of principal structures, major vessels and organ systems. Displayed on the back side of the The Thin Man Sequential Human Anatomy Figure is a full-figure view of the skeletal and nervous systems. Each subsequent layer of anatomy allows for deeper and deeper study.
At the first layer, students can study the musculature of the head, neck, thorax and abdomen. The superficial muscles are displayed on the right side of the figure, and deeper muscles and ribs are on the left. At this level, 30 structures are keyed and labeled.
The second layer reveals the brain, thyroid and salivary glands, eye, tongue, teeth, heart and its major vessels, lungs, stomach, liver and intestines. This layer features 44 keyed and labeled structures.
The third layer introduces the sinuses, nasal septum, tongue, trachea, heart chambers and vessels, pancreas, spleen, and the large intestine. 58 structures have been keyed and labeled.
On the fourth level, the esophagus, pleura, aorta, inferior vena cava, intercostal vessels and nerves, autonomic nerve trunk, kidneys and adrenal glands are presented. 77 structures are keyed and labeled.
Finally, on the fifth layer, the full figure is displayed, including the brain, pharynx, vertebral column, rib cage, muscles of the upper and lower extremities, pelvic organs, and muscles. This layer presents 77 keyed and labeled structures.
In all, well over 200 anatomical features are named, indexed, and keyed. Standing 63 inches (160 cm) tall, the Thin Man is mounted on a warp-proof composition board, with 8mm thick transparent overlays, and is supported by a tubular steel frame on a tip-proof four-legged stand.
