The physiological skeleton features all of the advantages of the standard Rudiger Anatomie skeleton, and combines it with with a flexible copper spine, a spinal cord with nerve ends, vertebral arteries, a herniated disc between L4 and L5, and a sectioned sacrum with a bony flap to expose the nerve bundles.
The upper and lower limbs, hand, feet, shoulders and hips of the physiological skeleton are mounted with elastic cord. Natural movements like medial and lateral rotation of arms and legs, flexion and extension of elbows and knees can be demonstrated. Shoulders are flexibly mounted to show natural hyperextension, pronation and supination of the forearms. One hand and foot are mounted on elastic cord to show every single bone from every view.
The flexible spine of the physiological skeleton comes with extra soft discs to show lifelike deformation while stretching and bending the spine. When moving the spine to the left, right, front or back, always one side of the affected disc gets compression from the vertebrae above and below. Discs used in standard skeletons, which are made of PVC plastic, just get thinner in this specific area; they cannot replicate the natural movement the way the extra soft discs in this spine can. Just like a real human spine, movement of the vertebrae cause the discs to compress out of the spine between the two vertebrae. This effect is reinforced by the extra flexible metal joint rod used in this flexible skeleton. The skeleton comes with 5-leg safety stand and dust cover.
